Speaker Series is an annual gathering of young professionals from across the New York Tri-State area as well as across the country that highlights the empowering experiences and inspiring stories of a panel of accomplished Filipino Americans. This year, Collaborative Opportunities for Raising Empowerment, Inc. (CORE) is planning two events around the theme of Education. On June 25, we will focus on the Profession, featuring Filipino Americans in Education, to include teachers, professors, administrators in academia and other forms of education, regardless of discipline. On October 22, we will look more closely at Literacy and Literature, focusing on issues around Education in the Filipino community and how Filipinos are perceived through literature.

HISTORY:

    In partnership with the Philippine Consulate General of New York, CORE developed its signature event in 2003, focusing on the stories of successful Filipino Americans from a diverse range of industries, including politics, investment banking, media and non-profit management. Since that time, the organization has coordinated five (5) more events that focused on public service, entrepreneurship, and Filipino-Americans in Music and Entertainment (FAME).

    Past participants include:
    • Analisa Balares - CEO and Founder, Womensphere
    • Irene Bueno - Former Official in Clinton Administration, Co-founder of Nueva Vista Group LLC;
    • Paul E. Butler - Director of Program Enterprises, VH-1 Music First (VH1) and Country Music Television (CMT);
    • Lando Felix - Co-Founder, Enyce and Mecca USA Clothing Brands
    • Sarah Gambito - Author, Professor, co-Founder of Kundiman
    • Eric Lachica - Executive Director, American Coalition for Filipino Veterans;
    • Victor Lirio - Founder and Artistic Director, Diverse City Theater Company
    • Rich Pangilinan (DJ Riddler), Record Label Executive, Entrepreneur, Producer/Remixer, Musician, Radio DJ: KTU 103.5 FM;
    • Laarni Almendrala Ragaza, an associate editor for widely-circulated PC Magazine; and
    • Robert Rivas, former mayor of Bergenfield, NJ.

    As CORE's signature event, the Speaker Series Program is the premiere opportunity in the New York City tri-state area to showcase the amazing impact of Filipino Americans. It provides a unique insight on how to achieve career fulfillment as a Filipino American, how to navigate industries and politics in the workplace, and how best to discover personal success while developing professional achievement.
