Film details below:

Two Feature Films:

Sat 7.12 | 345P | ASSLIN

SLINGSHOT Dir. Brillante Mendoza Philippines 2007 | 86min | Narrative

In the urgent, digital-video style of Paul Greengrass' BOURNE ULTIMATUM, director Brillante Mendoza steps squarely into the slums of Manila. This atmospheric film flows with thieves, junkies, and locals, who steal, cheat, and lie to survive in this world. Unfortunately, their desperation is not without cost.

Sat 7.12 | 630P | ASSANT

SANTA MESA New York Premiere Dir. Ron Morales U.S./Philippines 2008 | 85min | Narrative

New York filmmaker Ron Morales tells a coming-of-age story that conveys the awkward time of adolescence with quiet dignity and beauty. When his mother unexpectedly dies in an accident, Hector is suddenly sent from America to live with his estranged grandmother in Manila. Rather than wallowing, Hector is unflinchingly earnest as he attempts to adjust into his new environment, making new friends and grappling with how to make this place home.

Three Short Film Sessions

Fri 7.11 | 630P | ASSTAT

STATE OF FLUX - Do places define people? Or do people define their space? It's a conundrum as old as that of "the chicken or the egg?" Six filmmakers capture six worlds disrupted by tourism, migration, and globalization. Followed by Q&A. Total Running Time: 97min. (includes "Look At Us Senor" and "Godog")

Fri 7.11 | 915P | ASLOOK

LOOKING GLASS - Self-reflection begins with taking a look at the lives of others. Biography and autobiography, fact and fiction, these portraits are constructed out of the stories, personal struggles, memories, and motivations of those outside ourselves. Followed by Q&A. Total Running Time 98min (includes "God Only Knows" and "My Mother Said")

Tue 7.15 | 730P | ASCOLL

COLLISION THEORY - Random encounters can bring a bit of light to our otherwise mundane and repetitive lives. For those briefly shared moments, the universe enjoys the spark of human connection and we see a glimmer of order through the unpredictability of life. Followed by Q&A. Total Run Time: 109min (includes "Giving Care")

Please come out and help support!
